CFC Youth for Christ is a Catholic-based organization started in Manila, Philippines in 1994. It is the youth ministry of Couples for Christ. ...
So says the brochure and the Web site. To distinguish itself from Gospel Communications Network's Youth for Christ, they put "CFC" in front of their "YFC."
It is the youth group of Catholic-based Couples for Christ, thus, "CFC-YFC." For simplicity's sake, let's call the CFC-YFC at Loyola, YFC.
SHAPES AND NUMBERS
There are over 45,000 YFC worldwide. Illinois has over 500 members installed in all three segments of YFC -- community-, campus- and high school-based.
Community-based has been around since December 1994. Campus-based, starting with the University of Illinois at Chicago, started in 1998. Members at Loyola started meeting around the same time, but didn't immediately establish a presence as an official organization until 1999. [ More history ]
Illinois' first high school-based area is St. Ignatius in the West side, started in 2002.
"Most of us already have youth groups in our hometowns," current president Thomas Schneidau said during a retreat. "But if you're looking for a group to belong to to help you get to know God more, please think about YFC." |
